This Week at T3 Talks: Sultan Abdulhamid II and His Interest in Technology
As part of the T3 Talks series, we are pleased to present a special program that brings history and technology together on the same platform.
This week, we will explore the technological vision and perspective of Sultan Abdulhamid II, who played a significant role in the modernization process of the Ottoman Empire and stood out for his strong interest in innovation and technological advancement.
At a time when the effects of the Industrial Revolution were being felt across the globe, Sultan Abdulhamid II closely followed developments in communication, transportation, defense, and education. His innovative approach will be examined in light of historical documents and academic perspectives. The program will also address, from a multidimensional standpoint, how the technological initiatives of the past continue to inspire today’s vision.
Our guest speaker will be distinguished historian Prof. Dr. Vahdettin Engin, who has made significant contributions to the field. The session will be moderated by Emel Engin. Following the talk, an Ottoman-era Turkish music recital will offer participants a holistic experience of the historical atmosphere.
Prior to the program, participants will have the opportunity to join a guided tour of Yıldız Palace, allowing them to see firsthand the place where Sultan Abdulhamid II lived and governed. This experience will provide a deeper historical context to complement the discussion.
