6th National Technology Summit Held at Biruni University

The 6th National Technology Summit, organized in collaboration with Biruni University and the T3 Foundation, was held at the Biruni University Congress Center with the theme “Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence.”

During the program, topics such as artificial intelligence in healthcare, digital health infrastructure, biomedical design, and local health initiatives were discussed.

Speaking at the opening of the program, which was organized with the contributions of the Biruni University TEKNOFEST Club, Biruni University Rector Prof. Dr. Adnan Yüksel stated that the world is in a constant state of change and development, and called on young people to adopt a production- and project-oriented perspective. Prof. Dr. Yüksel said, “The world is in a continuous process of change and development, and we must keep up with this change and development.”

“TEKNOFEST is a major breakthrough for this country”

Emphasizing that education is not merely about transferring knowledge, Yüksel said, “Education is about revealing the talents within an individual. Therefore, TEKNOFEST is a major breakthrough, a great transformation, and a strong vision for this country.” Highlighting the importance of producing projects, Prof. Dr. Yüksel stated, “If you say ‘I attended classes, went home, studied, and received a diploma’ without creating projects, the multiplier is zero. Know this clearly.”

“Digital health transformation is accelerating”

Speaking at the program, Dr. Özgür Sezer, Director General of Health Information Systems at the Ministry of Health, drew attention to the current state of digitalization in healthcare, stating, “We are not only working on data or applications. We are also carrying out studies on healthcare economics and the efficient management of resources.”

Referring to the contribution of artificial intelligence to the healthcare system, Sezer said, “We use artificial intelligence to obtain faster, more effective, and more accurate results in healthcare services.”

Stating that the developed digital systems facilitate access to healthcare services, Sezer said, “With the applications we develop, we aim to make the processes of both our physicians and our citizens more efficient.” He noted that more than 160 digital applications are actively being developed within the Ministry of Health and emphasized that artificial intelligence is used effectively, especially in early diagnosis processes. Sezer stated that within the scope of the National Mammography Project, artificial intelligence contributes to rapid diagnosis by prioritizing high-risk patients.

“Youth should be a productive generation”

Erkut Kalkavan, Istanbul Coordinator of the T3 Foundation, stated in his speech that the summit series brings university youth together around technology production. Referring to the transformation in digital health and artificial intelligence, Kalkavan said, “Healthcare is one of the most sensitive and valuable areas of human life. With artificial intelligence, the transformation in this field offers entirely new opportunities from diagnosis to treatment, from data management to patient experience.”

Emphasizing the importance of young people’s participation in production, Kalkavan said, “We believe that this youth is not one that only watches, but one that takes the stage; not only consumes, but produces.”

Experts took part in the panel

During the panel, evaluations were made on different aspects of digital transformation in healthcare. Dr. Özgür Sezer discussed the studies carried out in Türkiye regarding digital health infrastructure and the management of health data.
